Bighill Plato ET sets a new Simmental Breed Society record at Tullamore selling for €12,200
The final Simmental Sale of the season took place at Tullamore Mart on Friday evening April 28th and the trade for quality bulls was very brisk with a new record price of €12200 being set at this venue for a Society Sale
The Overall Champion Bighill Plato ET was tapped forward by the judge Mark Neenan from the Limehill Herd in Co. Galway from a strong line up of class winners.
Exhibited by Fergal Doherty from Carrigart, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal this February 2022 born bull is sired by Curaheen Warrior and is out of a Delfur Decider sired dam Bighill Honey Pie. Securing this bull at €12200 was a joint partnership of the Springfield and Newbiemains herds in Scotland.
Standing at Reserve Champion was Clonagh Prince Explorer for Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise. This February 2022 born bull is sired by Manor Park Hansome and is out of Clonagh Dora The Explorer a Banwy T-Rex sired dam. Selling at the second highest price of €7200 this bull was purchased by Westmeath suckler farmer Paraic Fagan.
Next up at €5100 was Jennalyn Peter Pan exhibited by Lynsdey Behan from Ballyfin, Portlaoies, Co. Laois. Peter Pan was born in January 2022 and is also sired by Manor Park Hansome and out of a Kilbride Farm Dragoon dam Jennalyn Gina Tina, this bull heads to Co. Kilkenny to suckler farmer Edward Butler.
Selling at €4600 was lot 1 in the catalogue Clonagh New Yorker also exhibited by Garrett Behan. Born in September 2021 this Dirnanean Telstar sired bull is out of a Banwy T-Rex dam Clonagh Kayla Tilly. William Cotter, Co. Cork secured this bull for his Dripsey herd,
Hitting the €4000 mark was Kilkitt Norris who was sold by Sean Brady from Shantonagh, Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan. Sired by Curaheen Wakeman this December 2021 born bull is out of a Dermotstown Delboy dam Kilkitt Kimberley. This first class winning bull was purchased by Hugh Keogh from Mullingar.
In summary, there was a 75% clearance of bull with an average price of €4,420.
