Dovea Genetics Sponsored National Simmental Calf Finals

The Dovea Genetics Sponsored National Simmental Calf Finals took place at Strokestown Show on Saturday last September 8th. The standard of calves at these finals is increasing and once again over 45 calves were entered, representing all six Regional Clubs. With the task of judging these National Finals was Harold Stubbs from the famous Derrycallaghan Herd in Co. Fermanagh.

 In what was a nice morning for showing had turned into very wet conditions by the time these National Simmental Calf Classes commenced. In fact great credit must go to our Judge and competitors for keeping going and turning out their animals in top class show condition. These finals had a new sponsor in 2018 with Dovea Genetics coming on board as title sponsor.

Sean & Ryan Callan & John Lynch, Dovea Genetics

The first National Class in front of Harold Stubbs on the day was the Senior Heifer Calf Class for December/ January born calves. Claiming this National Title were first time winners Ryan & Sean Callan from Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan with Thornford Jemina claiming top spot. This December born Anatrim Bodybuilder sired heifer qualified from Virginia Show and is out of a Raceview King dam Thornford DeeDee. Reserve Senior Heifer Calf went to Fergal Doherty from Carrigart, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal with Bighill Jacqueline Via ET, a Dermotstown Delboy sired heifer out of a Hillcrest Jerome dam Curaheen Via.

 

 

Pat McNamee & John Lynch, Dovea Genetics

Taking the Junior Heifer Title was Lochview Kandy who was exhibited by Pat McNamee, Portlaoise, Co. Laois. The Junior classes are for calves born on or after February 1st and the winner of this very competitive class is out of a Glebefarm Tyson dam Fearna Elegence Vienna ET. Capturing the Reserve Junior Heifer was Nigel Hogan from Bennykerry, Co. Carlow with Rathnashan Kiwi Empress a Curaheen Gunshot sired heifer who is out of an Auroch Bullet dam Seafort Empress.

 

 

Gerry Neenan & John Lynch, Dovea Genetics

By the time judging progressed to the Bull Calf Classes the weather had deteriorated a lot but the show went on and taking the Senior Bull Title was Gerry Neenan, from Coolnafearna, Ballyhaunis with Fearna Jackpot ET. This December `17 born bull is sired by Dermotstown Delboy and is out of a Hillcrest Champion dam Fearna Regal. Reserve Senior Bull went to Tawley Jaguar exhibited by Declan Oates, Castlegal, Co. Leitrim. This Monaduff Snorter sired bull is out of an Auchorachan Wizard dam Annadale Dainty.

 

 

 

Sean Carroll & Harold Stubbs Judge

The Final National Class of the day was the Junior Bull Class and winning here was John Joe Carroll from Fairymount, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon with Fairymount Kickingking. This February born calf is sired by Anatrim Bodybuilder and is out of Fairymount Everest a Curaheen Vio sired dam. Reserve Junior Bull Calf went to Limehill Krackerjack P exhibited by Mark Neenan, Loughrea, Co. Galway. This Auroch Deuter PP sired calf is out of a Herkules dam Fearna Devine Vienna.
