The Simmental Society held its annual Premier Spring Sale at Roscommon Mart on Saturday March 23rd last.
Judging the presale show was Keith Nelson from the Scribby Farms pedigree herd in Rosslea, Co. Fermanagh.
Other notable prices included:
***** In summary, the sale of bulls recorded a 55% clearance and an average price of €4230 which was up €20 *****
In the female section, which included a Draft of 5 females from the Breezy-Hill Herd, there was a 95% clearance with an average price of €3000 which was up €300 on the 2023 return
The Overall Champion Lot 38 Tisaran Nollaig ET, a Dirnanean Telstar sired heifer exhibited by Martin Mooney, Shannon Harbour, Co. Offaly remained unsold on the day.
The top price in the female section of €4,700 came from the draft section exhibited by Aonghus Foley, Grenagh, Co. Cork. Breezy-Hill Natalie a March `21 born Curaheen Tyson sired first calved heifer is out of a Clonagh Direct Debit homebred dam Breezy-Hill Jinx and sold with a three week old Tiset Darwin heifer calf at foot.
Aonghus Foley also recorded the second highest price of €4,100 with the last heifer of the day through the ring Breezy-Hill Razmataz. This 12 month old heifer is sired by Glebefarm Tyson and is a half sister to Natalie with Breezy-Hil Jinx as dam.
Also selling at €3,500 was Lot 50 Treen Robin for Myles McHale, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Sired by Seafort Gill, this 15 month old heifer is out of a Derreen Jack dam, Derreen Margot.
Myles McHale also sold Lot 51 Treen Rosie at 3,300. Rosie was also 15 months old and again out of Seafort Gill and a derreen Jack dam, Derreen Megan
The next Simmental sale will take place at Tullamore Mart on Friday evening, April 26th.
