Simmental Premier Sale Report from Sat 29th March 2025 – A Sale to Remember!
The Simmental Spring Premier Sale took place at Roscommon Mart on Saturday March 29th and the current buoyancy in the beef sector has clearly reflected onto the Pedigree market with one of the best sales in years. Irish Suckler farmers were very active, and this coupled with a strong export demand resulted in auctioneer Tox Cox recording a total clearance rate of over 90%.
Judging the pre-sale show was Eamon McCluskey who runs the Drumagarner Herd in Kilrea, Co. Derry.
LOT 10 The highest priced bull selling at €16000 was Coose Rounder PP exhibited by Shannon O’Kane for John & Ronan Tuohy, Whitegate, Co. Galway. Sired by homebred bull Coose Kojack P, this October 23 born bull is out of Coose Kitty P, a Steinadler dam. Having been placed first in his class, this homozygous polled bull was purchased in partnership by Scottish Breeders, Gerald & Morag Smith for their Drumsleed Herd in Kincardinshire, Scotland and Robert MacGregor for his Team Herd in Perthshire.LOT 30 The second highest price of the day at €11000 was also recorded by the Touhy Team with the junior bull Coose Shoutout ET PP. Placed as the Junior Bull Champion of the Show by judge Eamon McCluskey who runs the Drumagarner Herd in Kilrea, Co. Derry. Again, sired by a homebred bull Coose Jericho P, this 13-month-old bull is out of a Tiset Darwin dam, Crackley Iris 92 F P. This bull is also heading to Scotland having been purchased by Clive Houdley for his Manor Park Herd in Lockerbie.LOT 17 The Reserve Junior Champion Loughnavalley Romeo was exhibited by Peter Fagan, Dalystown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. This December 23 born bull is sired by Rathnashan Norman ET and out of a Dermotstown G Mac dan Leeherd Lilly. This bull was purchased by Davis Reeves from Cornwall, UK at €7800.LOT 28 Selling at €7200 was Kilkitt Stormer P for the Brady Family, Kilkitt, Co. Monaghan. Sired by Auroch Deuter PP and out of a Dermotstown Delboy dam Kilkitt Nadine, this 13-month-old bull was purchased by a Co. Galway suckler farmer. LOT 2 The Senior bull Champion went to Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Co. Laois with lot 2 in the catalogue Clonagh Rollo Holly. This September 2023 born Manor Park Hansome bull is out of a Bawny T-Rex dam Clonagh Holly Fawn. This bull also sold for export to a Scottish Commercial farmer for €6600.LOT 6 The reserve senior Champion Clonguish Randolf was exhibited by the McGarry Family, Clonguish, Co. Longford. Sired by Ranfurly Klinker and out of a Kilbride Farm Delboy dam, Clonguish Jinger this September 2023 bull is heading to N. Ireland at €5200.

LOT 11 €6800 for Clonagh Romeo Boy exhibited by Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise and sired by Manor Park Hansome and out of an Omorga Volvo dam.LOT 13 €5800 for Clonagh Right Rascal sired by Manor Park Hansome and out of a Cairnview Snazzy dan, sold by Garrett Behan.LOT 3 €5600 for Sliabhview Rocky sired by Curaheen Tyson and out of a Manor Park Hansome dam, sold by Sean Lowry Ballyfin, Portlaoise.LOT 14 €5600 for Jennalyn Rock N Roll exhibited by Lyndsey Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoisre sired by Manor Park Hansome and out of a Banwy T-Rex dam.
LOT 15 €5600 for Corrib Rocky PP exhibited by Marie & Walter Walsh, Athlone, sired by Auroch Deuter PP and out of a Sneumgaard Lincoin PP dam.
In summary, the Bull section recorded an average price of €5947 up from €4230 in 2024, with a clearance Rate 88%.

The trade for females mirrored that of the bulls with keen demand for the top lots and a solid trade recorded overall.
LOT 46 Highest price here went to Sean Larkin, Kylebrack, Loughrea, Co. Galway with Glanville Senorita selling for €8000. Having been placed as the Overall Female Champion in the pre-sale show, this 14-month-old heifer is sired by Curaheen Gunshot P and is out of a Anatrim Bodybuilder dam, Fearna Glamour ET. This stylish young heifer was purchased by new breeders in Co. Clare. LOT 55 Next up at €7000 for Carbery Samaira, selling for the O`Halloran Family for Cahir, Co. Tipperary. This 12-month-old heifer is sired by Derreen Jack and is out of a Milnafua Graduate dam, Mohona Honey. Tom O`Riordan purchased this class winner and she will join his Ballyedmond Herd in Midleton, Co. Cork.LOT 33 €6600 was the selling price Riverbank Rosie exhibited by Liam Waldron, Scrigg, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. Sired by Leeherd Lynx and out of a homebred Curaheen Earp dam Riverbank Lola, this January 2023 heifer is scanned incalf to Rathlee Pirate.LOT 38 €4900 for Fohera Royal Avril P, sired by Auroch Deuter PP and out of a Curaheen Wakeman dam sold by Francis Maguire, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.LOT 39 €4600 for Fohera Regal Jodie exhibited by Francis Maguire, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim, sired by Auchorachan Hercules and out of a Curaheen Wakeman dam.LOT 53 €4500 for Treen Senita exhibited by Myles McHale, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, sired by Saltire Impressive and out of a Derreen Jack dam.
LOT 41 €4000 for Kilkitt Rosie, sired by Curaheen Gunshot P and out of a Drumlone Anchor dam sold by the Brady Family Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan
In the Female section there was an average price of €4132 recorded with a clearance rate of 89%. This average price was up from €3000 in 2024.
