Roscommon Premier Sale Top of €18500 with an 85% clearance.
One of the largest crowds seen at a Roscommon Simmental Sale for years were not disappointed as a quality entry of Bulls & Heifers put forward for sale met strong demand resulting in a clearance of close to 85% with averages up for both bulls & heifers.
The highest price of the day of €18,500 went to the second bull into the ring “Curaheen Drifter ET” exhibited by David Wall of Newcastle, Co. Dublin. “Drifter ET” a July `12 born bull was tapped forward as the Senior Champion from a very strong line up by the Judge, Neil McIlwaine from Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone. This “Curaheen Warrior” sired bull is out of a homebred “Hillcrest Jerome” dam “Curaheen Via ET”. After very brisk bidding, Auctioneer Denis Barrett dropped the hammer at €18,500 to the Overhill House Pedigree Herd in West Lothian, Scotland. Herd owner Richard McCulloch fought off competition from other Pedigree & Commercial herds as well as Irish A.I Companies to secure the bull.
Reserve Senior Champion went to Tony O`Leary, Ballincollig, Co. Cork with his October `12 born bull “Seaview Denver”. Selling at €3250 to Commercial Suckler farmer Michael McGann, Bell Harbour, Co. Clare this “Gretnahouse Supersonic” sired bull was out of a “Manitoba Spartan” dam “Seaview Willow”.
The Junior Champion was exhibited by A & G Brickley, Coolrain, Portlaoise and sold at €5,500 to Suckler farmer John Carroll, Abbeydorney, Tralee, Co. Kerry. This December `12 born bull “Celtic Delphi ET” is sired by “Cloondroon Nugget” and by a “Curaheen Tyson” dam “Celtic Wonder ET”.
The Reserve Junior Champion also went to Tony O`Leary, Ballincollig, Co. Cork with his January `13 born bull “Seaview Ever Charming ET”. By “Carnkern Titan” and by a “Gretnahouse Supersonic” sired cow “Seaview Hillary”, this full brother to “Seaview Prince Charming” was purchased at €4000 by Adrienne Deane, Ballytore, Co. Kildare for her Mountford Pedigree Herd.
Selling at €6,800 was lot 10 for David Wall, Newcastle, Co. Dublin “Curaheen Diesel ET”. Sired by “Carnkern Titan” and out of the “Raceview King” dam “Raceview Merle Beauty” this bull is a full brother to the sire of the Senior Champion and was purchased by UK breeders JJ & JM Saunders to join their Bavington Herd near Newcastle.
Hitting the €6,000 mark was lot 11 “Bearna-Dhearg Duke” for William O`Halloran, Cahir, Co. Tipperary. Sired by “Dripsey Superking” and out of a “Kilbride Farm Newry” dam “Mohona Alana” this bull joins the suckler herd of James & Enda McGee, Glasson, Athlone.
Two bulls hit the €5000 mark with first up being lot 23 “Raceview D Champ Royal ET” exhibited by Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow, Co. Cork. Sired by “Hillcrest Champion” and out of a “Raceview King” dam “Raceview Royal Beauty”. This bull joins the Corrib Pedigree Herd of Martin Regan, Clonfad, Ballyhaunis, Co. Roscommon.
Next at €5000 was “Clonagh Dancing T” for Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise. This “Banwy T-Rex” sired bull is out of “Cloneygowan Tilly Fiona ET” a “Dovefields Gallant” cow and sold to Hayley & Andrew Clarke, Norwich, England.
Other bull prices included:
- €4000 to Eamon Flanagan, Rosenallis, Portlaoise for a “Curaheen Vio” bull from Ger O`Connor, Kinvara, Co. Galway.
- €3600 to Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow for a “Drumlone Anchor” son from Christy Curley, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway.
- €3300 to John Stone, Bandon, Co. Cork from Gerard Moran, Ennis, Co. Clare for a “Hillcrest Butcher” sired bull.
- €3100 to David Brickley, Coolrain, Portlaoise, for a “Anatrim Via” bull from John Walshe, Hacketstown, Co. Carlow.
Overall in the bull section there was a 77% clearance with an average price of €3522 up €370 on 2012.
In the female section which included draft sales from the Corbally & Raceview Herds there was a clearance of 83% with an average price of €3323 which was up from €2900 in 2012.
Leading the market at €10,600 was the youngest heifer in the catalogue “Clonguish Empress ET” for Joe & Sean McGarry, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford. Born on February 15th 2013 this stylish heifer was placed as the Weanling heifer Champion earlier in the day during the judging and was purchased by Jimmy & Vicki Wood, Preston to join their Popes Herd. Sired by “Milton Lord Tiffany” and out of the “Raceview King” cow “Brogeen Victoria”, her breeding and show career will be awaited with interest.
The Junior Heifer Champion also moved the same direction from McGarry’s to Wood’s at €10,000. “Clonguish Diamond ET” a February `12 born heifer was sired by “Kilbride Farm Newry” and also out of “Brogeen Victoria”
The Reserve Junior Champion went to Ray Bracken, Daingean, Tullamore with “Cruithill Destiny”. This “Curaheen Wakeman” daughter out of a “Ballingar Kieran” sired dam “Ballingar Peach” was purchased by John Delaney, Clonmore, Templemore at €3,400
In the Senior Heifer Section both Champion and Reserve went to John Joe Carroll, Fairymount, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon with two in-calf heifers. The Champion was “Fairymount Carolina” by “Fairymount Wayne” and out of a “Clonaslee Admiral” dam “Fairymount Wynoma”. The Reserve Champion was “Fairymount Carol” a “Seaview Tommy” heifer out of a “Hillcrest King” dam “Fairymount Vasey”. Both heifers were purchased by Doran Auctioneers, Oak Road, Dublin 12 for €3,350 & €2,550 respectively.
In the Yearling Heifer Section the Champion went to David Wall, Newcastle, Co. Dublin with “Curaheen Dochas” an August `12 heifer sired by “Curaheen Warrior” out of a “Smithbilt Molson 21m” sired dam “Curaheen Adana ET”. €3,600 was the selling price for this lot to Overhill House Herd, West Lothian, Scotland.
The Reserve Yearling went to “Kilduff Duchess” for John Dunne, Belturbet, Co. Cavan. Born in October `12 this “Kilbride Farm Newry” heifer was out of “Kilduff Amanda” a “Delfur T-Bone” dam. She joins the Omorga Herd of John Moore, Omagh, Co. Tyrone at €3,000.
Standing Third in a strong Yearling Class was “Cruithill Dreamer” for Ray Bracken, Daingean, Tullamore. This “Curaheen Wakeman” heifer out of a “Hillcrest Champion” dam “Cruithill Wonder” sold to Chris Traynor, Armagh at €5,200.
At €8,500 “Raceview Dawn Matilda ET” joins the Denizes Herd of Michael Barlow, Lancashire, England. Exhibited by Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow, Co. Cork this 12 month old heifer was sired by “Hillcrest Champion” and out of the “Raceview King” dam “Raceview Matilda Stella”.
Next up for the O`Connell Family was “Raceview Emerald Alicia” a January `13 born heifer sired by “Milnafua Graduate” Again out of a “Raceview King” daughter “Raceview Alicia ET” this heifer hit the €7,450 mark selling to the Heathbrow Herd in Hertfordshire, England of David & Leslie Sapsed.
Selling at €6,600 to the Roma Herd of RS & ME Weatherup, Roxburghshire, Scotland was “Raceview D Patricia Kim”. Sired by “Raceview Bertie” and out of the “Ballingar Franco” dam “Ballingar Kim” this heifer was born in March `12.
The last Raceview heifer to sell was born in February `13, “Raceview Evita Winty”. Martin Mooney, Shannon Harbour, Birr, Co. Offaly purchased this “Drumlone Anchor” heifer out of the “Kilbride Farm Newry” dam “Raceview Winty Matilda” at €5,500.
The last females of the day were put forward for sale by James & Fiona Browne, Corbally, Co. Cork from their “Corbally Herd”. Hitting the €6,200 bracket was “Corbally Eires VIP” a February `13 heifer. Kieran Mullarkey, Ballinfull, Co. Sligo purchased this “Milnafua Graduate” heifer who is out of “Corbally VIP Katie” a “Raceview King” dam.
Selling at €6,600 was “Corbally Eternal ET” a “Hillcrest Champion” sired heifer. Born in January `13 and out of a “Raceview King” dam “Corbally Vintage Katie” this heifer was purchased by Padge Mulhare, Cloghan, Co. Offaly.
The last lot under the hammer was “Corbally AOK Katie ET” a September `09 cow sired by “Raceview King” and out of the “Kealod Desmond” dam “Corbally Katie”. This cow sold with a three week old “Glebefarm Tyson” heifer calf at foot and sold for €7,000 to Richard McCulloch’s Overhill House Herd in West Lothian, Scotland.
