Report Gort Simm X Heifer Sale

The South West Simmental Club held its annual commercial Heifer Sale in Gort mart on Wednesday evening last, the 13th of October.
This sale, now in its 21st year and similar to previous years sales, continues on a steady upward curve, with a total of 180 heifers catalogued on the night.
Incalf Heifers met with a lively trade, achieving an 86% clearance. Of these, 14 heifers met and exceeded the €2,300 price mark, with the hammer falling twice on €2,500 for lots 36 and 42.
In the maiden heifer section there was a 93% clearance, the highest price was for lot 113, the last maiden heifer into the ring, the hammer fell here at €1,720 for 665kg(€2.59/kg). Other sample prices on the night, lot 68 470kg – €1540 (€3.28/kg), lot 100 475kg – €1460 (€3.07/kg), lot 86 470kg – €1320 (€3.11/kg).
Weanling heifers, as always the largest section, saw an 99% clearance. Tops here was lot 130 weighting 385kg and selling for €1380 (€3.58kgs) other sample prices lot 161 330kg – €1240 (€3.76/kg), lot 170 280kg – €980 – €3.50/kg, lot ?? 250kg – €1,000 – €4/kg,
Overall the sale had a total clearance rate of 93%, there was a full ringside attendance, with covid restrictions being adhered to. Online bidding was also very active, with 53 online bidders, with the hammer dropping on a total of 30 heifers to online bidders. Over all the 180 heifers on offer on the night went to 80 different buyers.
