Coose Roisin P Tops Simmental Premier at €15,500!! Show & Sale Report here from Sat 26th Oct 2024

The Simmental Premier Sale which took place at Roscommon Mart on Saturday saw the demand for quality heifers continue to increase while customers were very selective when if came to purchasing bulls.

Once again, the Coose Team of John & Ronan Tuohy topped the trading with their weanling heifer Coose Roisin P. Selling at €15,500 (in photo above) when auctioneer Denis Barrett closed the sale, this October 2023 born heifer was sired by herd sire Tulla Jaguar P. Jaguar P was purchased from the late Denis O`Halloran from Tulla, Co. Clare and has bred many quality animals for the herd. The dam Coose Morocco ET is a homebred cow, who in turn is sired by Mullyknock Gallant and is out of Curaheen Bright Eyes who was purchased at the Curaheen Disperasl Sale in 2016 for the late David Wall. This exciting heifer heads to N. Ireland after being secured by Alfie Shaw for his Glebe Farm Herd in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.
Second highest price of the day at €10,000 went to Kieran & Paul Mullarkey, Ballinfull, Co. Sligo with Lissadell Riley VIP ET (in photo above). At 14 months of age this Dermotstown Delboy sired heifer is out of the Milnafua Graduate dam Corbally Eires VIP. This heifer also heads to N. Ireland where she will join the Haystar herd of Gavin Hayes, Lisburn, Co. Antrim.
 In the bull section, top price of €7,000 went to Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Co. Laois with Clonagh Rock and Roll P (in photo above). Standing at Reserve Senior Champion in the pre sale show under the judge Adrian Ivory from the Strathisla Herd in Scotland, this May 2023 born bull is sired by stock bull Auroch Magnifico P. Paul O`Keane fron Dungivin, Co. Derry was the purchaser of this bull who is out of a homebred Manor Park Hansome sired dam, Clonagh La Bella Glam Posh.
Selling at €6,000 was lot 8 Leeherd Rocky 451 (in photo above) for John Finnegan, Coachford, Co. Cork.  Again May 2023 born this bull is sired by Herd Sire Clonagh Lethal Attraction and is out of a Dermotstown G-Mac sired dam Leeherd Lucy 358. Securing this lot was Tomas Kerin for his suckler Herd in Bell Harbour, Co. Clare.
Next up at €5,600 was Clonagh Royal Eagle (in photo above) selling again for Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Co. Laois. This bull a just 12 months of age is sired by Clonagh Legal Eagle and is also out of a Manor Park Hansome dam, Clonagh Laras Croft. This bull is heading to Scotland to join Bruchag Herd of Robert McAlister in Isle of Bute.

Hitting the €5,400 mark was Raceview Rambo 1045 P for Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow, Co. Cork. Sired by Stock bull Raceview Mattie J Beauty this August 2023 born bull is out of a Dermotstown Delboy sired dam Raceview Maggiefortuna. Again heading to Co. Clare, suckler farmer John McCormack, Sharvkoee was the buyer here.

Two bulls hit the €5,000 figure with the first being Glanville Roger (in photo above) for Sean Larkin, Kylebrack, Loughrea. Sired by Curaheen Gunshot this June 2023 born bull is out of an Auroch Deuter PP dam Linehill Karisma P. Suckler to beef farmer John Feeney for Grange, Co. Sligo secured this bull.
Next at €5,000 was Rathlee Ryan Reape ET (in photo above) for Gerry Lenehan, Easkey, Co. Sligo. Sired by Saltire Impressive and out of Curaheen Grace P who is turn is sired by Auroch Bullet P this August 2023 born bull was purchased by Emmett Tarmey, Ballinlough, Co. Roscommon for his Kilnalag Herd.

Overall bulls averaged €4428 with a 40% clearance recorded. This figure was down €250 on the 2023 sale which recorded a 64% clearance.

In the Female Section, next up after the €15,500 & €10,000 was two heifers selling at €8,800…

First up was Fearna Pixie (in photo above) selling for Gerry Neenan, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. Born in August 2022 this Auroch Maximus sired heifer is out of Barnhill Farm Juliet who in turn is sired by Kilbride Farm Bantry. Sucuring this heifer who is in-calf to stoch bull Coose Napoleon P was Ross McArdle, Dundalk, Co. Louth.
Next at €8,800 was Clonguish Rhian VI ET (in photo above) for the McGarry Family, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford. The second youngest heifer in the sale this 10 month old heifer was placed at Weanling Heifer Champion in the pre sale show. Sired by Kilbride Farm Bantry and out of the Raceview King sired Show Cow Brogeen Victoria this heifer was purchased by N. Ireland breeders David & Johny Hazelton, Dungannon for their Ranfurly Herd.
The pre sale show Yearling Heifer Champion Lissadell Royal Flush ET (in photo above) sold for €7,600. Exhibited by Kieran & Paul Mullarkey, Balinfull, Co. Sligo this 14 month old heifer is sired by Dermotstown Delboy and out of Corbally Eires VIP. An ET sister to Riley VIP ET who sold for €10,000 this heifer was purchased by Rooney Sloan Farm, Newry, Co. Down.
The Junior Heifer Champion Raceview Poppy Jasmin (in photo above) was exhibited by Marion & Peter O`Connell. Born in December 2022 this Raceview Jerman Bounty sired heifer is out of a Dermotstown Delboy dam Raceview Jasmin Chantelle. Securing this heifer at €7,000 was Oliver Barker, Scotland.
Oliver Barker also purchased Thornford Peachy P (in photo above) exhibited by Declan & Ryan Callen, Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan. Peachy was placed Senior Heifer Champion and sold for €6,000. Sired by Saltire Impressive this 24 month old heifer is out of Thornford Juliette a Kilbride Farm Gernot sired heifer.
Selling at €6,900 was Rathnashan Sexy Lady ET (in photo above) for Nigel Hogan, Bennekerry, Co. Carlow. The youngest heifer in the sale, this January 2024 born heifer was reserve Weanling Champion earlier in the day. Sired by Mullyknock Gallant and out of Rathnashan Harper ET a Kilbride Farm Delboy dam, this heifer heads to Co. Westmeath to Fagan Farms.

In summary, the heifer trade was exceptionally steady with an average price of €4036 and a clearance rate of 94%. The average price was down just €7 on 2023 but with a far higher clearance rate (82% in 2023).
