REPORT

The Southern Simmental Club held its annual Autumn Calf Finals in Barryroe Show last weekend. A rain soaked day didn’t hinder a total of 21 calves contesting the four championships. All calves had qualified from various shows including, Bandon, Belgooly, Clonakilty, Cork, Charleville, Dunmanway and Clonmel shows. Judge on the day was Mr. Paddy Hennelly of the renowned Seepa Herd based in Rosses Point, Co. Sligo. Sponsorship was provided by Animax Allsure who has continually supported the Southern Simmental Club over the last number of years.

Following on from the club championships, the Overall Breed Championship was awarded to Raceview Gypsy Verona from Peter O’Connell. This Anatrim Bodybuilder daughter also went on to win the Interbreed Calf Championship of the show and was one half of the winning Interbreed Pairs with her stable mate Raceview Goldie Dreamer. The Reserve Breed Championship went to Roscarbery to Keith Vickery with his Kilbride Farm Delboy sired bull Carbery Gavyn.
