Bulls top at €4800 at Simmental Premier Show & Sale
The Simmental Premier Sale at Roscommon on Saturday last followed the recent trend in pedigree sales which are recording lower clearance rates than 2013 but on a positive note demand for the top quality lots remained strong.
The Senior Bull Champion ‘Clonagh Denis The Menace’ was exhibited by Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, and Portlaoise and sold for joint top price of €4800 to David Birmingham, Kilteely, Co. Limerick. Born in September `12 this bull was sired by “Clonagh Wonderboy” and out of a “Sacombe Wishfull Thinking” dam “Hillcrest Jacqueline”.

€2800 to Garrett Behan, for a “Banwy T-Rex” sired bull ‘Clonagh Demolition Rex’ from Moira Lavin, Strokestown, Co. Roscommon.
The overall clearance rate of just under 50% was disappointing but on a positive note a greater number of bulls changed hands than at the same sale in 2013 but with an average price of €2800 which is down €290 on last year reflecting the current confidence in the beef sector.
In the female section a double of Champion and Reserve went to the Neenan Brothers, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo with two full sisters ‘Fearna Devine Vienna’ & ‘Fearna Duchess ET’. Sired by “Herkules” these heifers are out of the “Raceview King” dam “Fearna Vienna”.
