Averages for Both Bulls & Heifers up at Simmental Premier Sale.

The Simmental Society Autumn Premier Show & Sale at Roscommon, once again proved to be the highlight of the Simmental season with both average prices and clearance rates up on 2022 for both bulls & heifers.

The bulls section recorded an average price of €4672 with a clearance rate of 64%, this was up from €4640 and 58% in 2022 respectively.

Selling for top price of the day at €15,600 was Coose Prague P for John & Ronan Tuohy, Whitegate, Co. Galway. This June `22 born bull is out of their Stockbull Tulla Jaguar P and a homebred Curaheen Drifter sired dam Coose Kesli.  This Heterozygous Polled bull was purchased by the McGowan Family, Perthshire, Scotland for their Incheoch / Dirnanean Herd.

The Tuohy Family also recorded the second highest priced bull with Lot 30 Coose Picasso P selling for €10,000. Again, sired by their Stockbull Tulla Jaguar P, this September `22 born bull is Heterozygous Polled and is out of a Promi PP sired dam Coose Lucy Luca P.

LOT 43 – Selling at €6200 was Lissadell Powerhouse ET for Kieran & Paul Mullarkey, Ballinfull, Co. Sligo.
This November `22 born Dermotstown Delboy sired bull is out of a Milnafua Graduate dam Corbally Eires VIP.
He was also sold for export to Scotland to West Lothian repeat customer Robert Cook, Kinneil Mill Farm.

Other bulls to reach the €4000 mark included: €4900 to John & Ronan Tuohy for Coose Paris sired by Coose Lincoln ET

LOT 5 – €4300 to the McKiernan Family, Corlesmore for Corlesmore Pablo sired by Derreen Jack.
LOT 41 – €4000 to Paul McArdle, Castleblaney for Broomfield Pinocchio sire by Saltire Impressive.
LOT 105 – Topping the Female section at €10,600 was Bighill Princess Jacs ET sold as part of his draft entry for Fergal Doherty, Carrigart, Co. Donegal.
This February `22 born maiden heifer is sired by Curaheen Warrior ET and out of a Dermotstown Delboy sired homebred cow Bighill Jacqueline Via ET.
LOT 80 – Next up at €9200 was the Reserve Yearling Heifer Champion Dermody Princess. Selling this Saltire Impressive sired heifer was Noel & Keith Jagoe, Drinagh, Co. Cork.
Out of a home bred Glebefarm Tyson dam Dermody Kandy this September `22 born heifer was purchased by the Weatherup Family, Ballyclare, Co. Antrim for their Lisglass Herd.
LOT 74 – Taking the Yearling Heifer title and selling for €6100 was Bloomfield Penny Browne. Exhibited by Paul McArdle, Castleblaney,
This 14 month old heifer is sired by Ballinalare Farm Galaxy heifer is out of a Kilbride Farm Newry dam Corbally Classsic Vintage.
Buying this lot was John & Tina Gosemore, Newtown House Simmentals, Chester.   
LOT 46 – Placed as the Senior Heifer Champion by the judge Reece Simmers and selling for €9000 was Fearna Nelly Sparkles P. Exhibited by Gerry Neenan, Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo.
This September `21 born heifer is sired by Curaheen Gunshot and out of Fearna Ko Ko ET a Glebefarm Tyson dam. Purchasing this heifer who is incalf to Coose Napoleon P was Ross McArdle, Dundalk, Co. Louth.
LOT 47 – Philomena Galligan, Drumfin, Co. Sligo exhibited the reserve Senior Heifer Champion, Gortin Nepeta P.
This Curaheen Gunshot sired heifer is out of a Curaheen Dickens dam, Gortin Jennie.
Conor McGovern, Kells Co. Meath secured this September `21 born heifer at €5100.
LOT 57 – Moyle Patsy was placed as the reserve Junior Heifer for Bertie Houston, Newtowncunninghan, Co. Donegal.
This January `22 born heifer is sired by Curaheen Dickens and is out of a Shanehill Brandy dam Moyle Hazel.
This heifer also sold for export at €5100. Bertie also exhibited the Junior Champion Moyle Patricia, a Derreen Jack daughter selling at €3300.
LOT 93 – The last show class of the day was the Weanling Heifer class and taking the honors here was Nigel Hogan, Bennekerry, Co. Carlow with Rathnashan Pippa Empress ET. Born in October `22 this Saltire Impressive sired heifer is out of an Auroch Bullet dam Seafort Empress and joins the Backmuir Herd of the Simmers Family, Keith Scotland at €5600.
LOT 94 – Hitting the €7200 mark was Paul McArdle with Bloomfield Pretty Lady ET, a November `22 heifer sired by Saltire Impressive.
Out of a Dermody Butcher dam, Brookwood Fancy Lady ET this young heifer was purchased by Wesley Abraham, Co. Fermanagh.

The last draft of heifers forward for selling was put forward by Raceview Simmentals of Peter & Marion O`Connell, Mallow, Co. Cork and they did not disappoint selling to prices of €9000, €8500, €7600, €6200 & €6100.

LOT 115 – First up at €9000 was Lot 115 Raceview Pretty Lady Gretta, a 14 month old heifer sired by herd Sire Raceview Mattie J Beauty and out of a homebred dam Raceview Lady Gretta by Raceive His Royal Di ET.
This heifer joins the Mullyknock Herd of Robert Forde, Tempo, Co. Fermanagh.

Raceview PCH Vivkim Et sold for €8500 to Nigel Glasgow, Cookstown, Co. Tyrone. Again at 14 months of age this Coose Jericho P sired heifer is out of Raceview Chantelle Vivian who in turn is sired by Raceview Vince Rayanne.

LOT 111 – Next up at €7600 was Lot 111 Raceview Primrose Lucky, an August `22 born Raceview Mattie J Beauty sired heifer.
Out of a Raceview His Royal Di sired dam Raceview Lucky F R Beauty this heifer was purchased by Martin McElmeel, Co. Armagh.
LOT 112 – Selling at €6200 was Lot 112 Raceview Princess Lucky, a twin sister to Lot 111.
This heifer stays in Co. Cork having been purchased by Willie & Jennie Cotter for their Dripsey Herd.
LOT 120 – New Breeder Gearoid Kennedy from Portlaoise secured the last heifer of the day Raceview Picole JD Kim for €6100, again by Raceview Mattie J Beauty.
This ten month old heifer is out of Raceview Jolly Diana ET who in turn is sired by Hillcrest Champion.

***** In summary the heifers averaged €4043 with a clearance rate of 82% which were both up from 2022 having stood at €3560 and 76% *****
