On Sunday 30th September last, the Western Simmental Club held a field day on the farm of Leo Leyden, Ballinasuil, Co Sligo. Leo has a large suckler herd of mixed breed cows including Simmentals running with a Simmental bull.
Nathan Tuffy was in attendance from the Irish Farmers’ Journal and spoke about the quality of the calves from the different breeds of cows. Michael Oliver gave an informative talk on the qualities of a young bull on display.
There was a competition held on the day, where the attendees had the opportunity to place first, second and third crossbred heifers. The result was judged by Brendan Peoples.
Light refreshments were served by the Leyden family on the day.
The Western Simmental Club would like to thank the Leyden family for hosting the field day on their farm.
